Brief description of the initiative/event

        This year IEEE CAS Malaysia will host the 2017 Asia Pacific Conference on Postgraduate Research in Microelectronics & Electronics (PrimeAsia2017) in October 2017. In conjunction with the PrimeAsia2017, IEEE CASS Malaysia would like to promote engineering works carried out by women, young professionals and postgraduate students; and encourage them to join IEEE CAS Malaysia during the WiCAS Program 2017. Thus, we would like to propose an event called WiCAS2017, which is on Women in CAS/Young Professionals/postgraduates workshop on a day before the PrimeAsia2017.

        The aim of the workshop is to provide an environment for early-career-stage researchers where they can present their work, learn about other research activities in the area of circuits and systems, interact with their senior peers and receive high-quality feedback from the internationally renowned audience of researchers and developers. It is also to encourage interaction between the participants of the workshop and established researchers from academia and industry. The workshop will be organized as a one-day event. The organizers of the workshop will conduct a special session for participants by encouraging young professionals, postgraduate students to listen to some expertise in Career Development, Engineering and Innovation and Engineering with Management and Entrepreneurship. Experts from industries and universities will be invited to give the talk and they will ensure the high quality of presentation and discussion during the workshop.

        A workshop of IEEE CAS Malaysia WiCAS will be held a day before PrimeAsia2017 conference. The tentative date is on October 31st, 2017, at Pullman, Bangsar. This event will be co-organized by IEEE Malaysia Section, IEEE WIE Malaysia, and IEEE CASS Region 10, mainly from the IEEE CASS Singapore Chapter, IEEE CASS Indonesia Chapter, IEEE CASS Macau Chapter and the IEEE CASS Hyderabad Chapter.

        In order to promote young professionals and postgraduate students in Circuits and Systems field, special guests will be invited from IEEE and IEEE CASS Chapter member from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Macau, Hyderabad and industries that offer good sight of the profession and field during the events.

The one-day workshop will be in five sessions:

Session 1: Technical talks on career development on circuit and system by experienced IEEE Member (Fellow/Senior Member)

Session 2: Technical talk on latest development on circuit and system research/ Engineering and Innovation by experienced IEEE Member (industry people/Fellow/Senior Member)

Session 3: Technical talk on Engineering with Management and Entrepreneurship

Session 4: CAS forum for young professionals benefit

Session 5: CAS promotion on membership and membership benefit

Free gift and goodies will also be provided to encourage young members to enjoy their day and register as a member of IEEE CAS.

The workshop will achieve the following goals:

  • Promote the transition of students to early-career-stage professionals in the Circuits and Systems Society (CASS).
  • Promote the transition of young professionals in CASS to established researchers and academics.
  • To increase skills and knowledge as well as to empower target groups to enable their effective participation in the Circuits and Systems Society (CASS);
  • To increase and diversify the opportunities for target groups towards enhancing their effective participation in the Circuits and Systems Society (CASS);
  • To strengthen the networking both at the national and international levels to facilitate the sharing of information, experience and expertise;
  • Promote the IEEE CASS to new members
