ABOUT THIS INITIATIVE
This initiative will give an opportunity to the participants to learn and explore IC Design & Test subjects in more fun and attractive ways outside the classroom. It is targeted to give a better overview and learning experience to the participants who are keen to know more about microelectronics field. The theme for this year is operational amplifier. This summer school is targeted to 40 undergraduate students who are in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or any related programmes.

L’apprenti @ Putra Restaurant has been operating since January 2010. Branding Gala opening of L’apprenti @ Putra restaurant was inaugurated by Hon. Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah, Vice Chancellor of UPM on 7 April 2010. L’apprenti @ Putra Restaurant concept of fine dining and offers a diverse menu ranging from Grazing, Appertizer, Soup, Main Course and Dessert.
BIOGRAPHY OF INVITED SPEAKERS
Fakhrul Zaman Rokhani received the B.S. degree in electrical and mechatronic engineering from the University of Technology Malaysia, Johor, in 2001, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 2004 and 2008 respectively. He was with MIMOS Malaysia for a stint period in 2001. He is currently a faculty member in the Dept. of Computer and Communication System Engineering, UPM. In 2010 he was a visiting scholar at the ASIC & Systems State Key Lab in Fudan University, China. In Jun 2010, he spent 14 months at Intel Penang Design Center as a Visiting Professor where he worked on designing the next generation chipset. His current research interests include low-power and high-performance VLSI design, on-chip and off-chip bus coding and interconnect design. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate level course covering computer architecture, embedded systems and design automation and physical design for system-on-chip. Dr. Rokhani was the recipient of scholarship award from the Malaysian government for his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in 1997, 2003, and 2004, respectively. He was awarded travel grant support from ACM SIGDA to attend Young Faculty Workshop at DAC’12. He serves as a committee in the IEEE CAS Malaysia Chapter and was a Treasurer for the IEEE GOLD for 2010-2011. He serves as a chair for IEEE Consumer Electronics Malaysia Chapter in 2014. He serves on the technical program committees for IEEE ICCAS’13, APCCAS’10 and ASQED’09. He was the Publication chair for 2010 IEEE APCCAS. In addition, he has chaired many sessions at regional and international conference in the areas of VLSI design.
Mohd Adli Ahmad Bazuli has 13 years of experience working in the semiconductor industry. He has worked with Silterra Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd and now holds the position as the TIM IT ACE Technical Lead with Texas Instruments Sdn Bhd. He holds a Bachelors Degree of Electronics from Southampton University, United Kingdom but has been accumulating experience in the IT fields especially in factory Equipment Integration (EI) and automation software in the wafer fabrication facilities. Example of his recent accomplishment is setting up the Factory Automation System for Texas Instruments facility in Chengdu, China and he also travels around for projects in United States and Philippines. He is passionate about IT, programming, keeping with latest trend of technology and sharing his knowledge with others.
Nurul Amziah Md Yunus received her Ph.D. degree from University of Southampton, United Kingdom in the field of Bionanoelectronics–Microfluidic devices and systems for fluid and particle separation and manipulation. She was awarded B.Eng (Hons) degree in Electronic Engineering from University of Leeds, United Kingdom and Master Degree (M.Sc.) in the same field from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia. Her Research interests are in design and fabrication of microsystems and sensors, microfluidic devices (liquid handling devices), Lab on a chip (LOC), BioMEMS and Thin Film Solar Cells. Currently, she is a Senior Member of IEEE, Vice Chair of IEEE Circuits and Systems Malaysia Chapter, Member of IET and Head of Micro and NanoElectronic Systems Unit at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Suhaidi Shafie is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia. His research interests are sensing devices, sensors interface circuits and sensory systems. He has worked on wide dynamic range image sensor, low power transmitter for capsule endoscope, and sensory system for electronic water meter. He is also working closely with MIMOS Berhad on development of ultra-low power analog-to-digital converter. He is a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and International Association of Engineers (IAENG).
Tan Kong Yew received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer and Communications Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. He was an Automation Design Engineer at Micro Component Technology, Penang for 3 years, designing the control software and systems for various back-end semiconductor equipments such as Trim & Form, Test Handler (Gravity Feed and Pick and Place) and Pellet Charger. Customers include Intel USA, AMD and ASE. He was also worked as test equipment/hardware engineer for ATE vendor companies such as Advantest, Teradyne and Advanced Semiconductor Automation (ASA), for about 7 years. He is currently the Head of Integrated Circuit Characterization and Future Technology Group at MIMOS Berhad. He is also a Analog Mix Signal IC Design Lead for the past 9 years, designing various analog front end (AFE) and data converters (Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog) for sensor applications. The position also involves test and characterization of the fabricated chips and lead the test and characterization lab group. He has disclosed and filed more than 10 patents under MIMOS.
Tang Tong Boon received his BEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering and PhD degrees from University of Edinburgh, UK. He was an ASIC engineer at Lucent Technologies in Singapore and a senior research fellow at University of Edinburgh, UK. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. He serves as the Group Leader for Pervasive Computing in the Centre for Intelligent Signal and Imaging Research. His research interests are in biomedical instrumentation and neuromorphic engineering. He received IET Nanobiotechnology Premium Award in 2008, Lab on Chip award in 2006 and best paper at ICMBE in Singapore in 2002. He serves as a Review Editor of Frontiers in Neuromorphic Engineering and Associate Editor of Journal of Medical Imaging and Health Informatics. He is a member of IEEE and BEM.
Yeo Chiau Woon received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University, USA. He has more than 15 years of experience in semiconductor career with Texas Instruments, Agilent Technologies, Eagle Test System and Teradyne where he has been involved in various aspects of semiconductor industry, design, R&D and test. He is also active in DIY audio where knowledge and experience learned from work/hobby enhance one’s knowledge and skillset.
Lee Yuen Tat joined Intel Penang in 2000 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Over the years, he has worked on a wide range of product development domains including test hardware design, pre and post silicon validation, design-for-test (DFT) microarchitecture and design, scan and logic built-in self-test (BIST). At present, he is a technical leader in the Manufacturing Development Organization and shall focus on high volume manufacturing (HVM) reset and functional test enabling. YT holds 1 US patent and has another 1 filed and pending, and has published several technical papers in numerous internal Intel technical conferences.
