In 2013, CAS Malaysia chapter inaugurated the IEEE CAS Hi-Tea session in order to bring together CAS members in Malaysia. It was intended to be an open networking session and it successfully did just that. This year, IEEE CAS (M) once again will be having the Hi-Tea as per the details below. The objectives of the program are:
- To be a platform for intellectual interaction between IEEE member fellows, engineers and academicians.
- To share knowledge and opportunities
- To promote the IEEE CAS society programs.
- To foster collaboration and cooperation

Guest Speakers Biographies
Dr. Nor Azmi Alias obtained his BSc, MSc and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, specializing in the field of corrosion science and technology, specifically in the application of localized impedance spectroscopy methodology, photoelectron spectroscopy and phase transformation in characterizing degradation and protection of alloys, tribological coatings and polymer matrix composites in marine environment. He has more than 15 years industrial R&D experience, in technical and management roles, in semiconductor packaging, electronic chemicals, electrochemical applications, and telecommunication product design and components technology.
Dr. Masuri Othman obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Master’s degree in Optoelectronics and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microelectronics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti of Essex, UK and University of Southampton, UK respectively. He joined The National University of Malaysia in 1978 until to the post of Professor in Microelectronics in 1996. His last position in UKM was The Deputy Director of The Institute of Micro and Nanoelectronics (IMEN) from 2004-2006.
In 2006, he moved to MIMOS to takeup the post of The Director of MEMS and Microsystem and subsequently to become the Chief Research Director in MEMS and Nanotechnology until 2011.
In July 2011, he has been with The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation as The Director of Commercialisation in charge of the technology commercialisation. He is looking into the commercialisation of MOSTI-funded through e-science and Pre-comm projects and work closely with the Venture Capitals such as MTDC and MDV as well as The Biotech Corp Technology to commercialise MOSTI Technologies.
Lai, Soon Chong is a System Validation Engineer with 11+ years industrial experience. Has been working in Microelectronics MNC as Software Validation, Circuit Designer, and Characterization & System Validation engineer. Passionate electronics makers and hobbyist specializing in Intel x86 architecture and FPGA design.
Successfully published 1 patent in United State Patent Office and contributor to FPGA Open Source community. Graduated with Bachelor degree from Universiti Teknologi Petronas.
