Introduction to Engineering and Robotics: 

A Robotic Workshop for Lower Secondary School Students

        IEEE Circuits & Systems Malaysia Chapter together with USM IEEE Student Branch has conducted a School Activity in the form of a robotics workshop and competition for lower secondary school students (age 12 & 13). The purpose of the workshop is to expose students with basic robotics and engineering, so as to develop interest among them towards the electrical and electronic engineering field. With the approval granted by the Director of Penang State Department of Education, this workshop has been successfully conducted at SMK Paya Keladi, Kepala Batas Pulau Pinang. A total of 30 students comprising of 15 Form 1 students and 15 Form 2 students were involved as the participants of the workshop.

          Mr. Yong Bang Ming who is also the chair of USM IEEE SB was the Project Manager of the workshop. During the event, the USM IEEE SB counselor, Dr Rosmiwati Mohd Mokhtar together with the chair of IEEE CAS Malaysia, Dr Fawnizu Azmadi Hussin, and a representative from IEEE CAS Malaysia, Dr Mohd Tafir Mustaffa, also participated as advisors for the workshop.

         The organizing committee started preparing for the workshop at 6AM and the workshop was officially launched at 8AM at the main hall of SMK Paya Keladi. The workshop began with a welcoming speech by the headmistress of SMK Paya Keladi, Madam Azizah binti Mat. The event continued with a speech given by Dr. Rosmiwati binti Mohd Mokhtar (presenting USM IEEE SB) and Dr. Mohd Tafir Mustaffa (presenting IEEE CAS Malaysia) respectively, followed by Robotic Builders Starter Guide presented by Mr. Yong Bang Ming.
