2017 IEEE CAS Malaysia Networking High-Tea

On 27 July 2017, IEEE CAS Malaysia has organised a Networking High-Tea at Hotel Sri Malaysia, Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia. The objective of this event is to help society and members from universities and industries to exchange ideas, especially in research, collaboration and exchanging products commercialization ideas in Circuits and Systems area. This is the 5th year since the annual event that has been initiated since 2013.

With the theme “Recent advance in E&E Industry: Challenges and Opportunity”, four speakers has been invited to share their experience. The first speaker is Mr. Hun Wah Cheah, a Director of Oppstar Technology. He shared his experience on his company success story on “Creating tomorrow’s IC technology for the world”. This is follows by a talk from Senior Director of Corporate Development & External Affairs of Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, Mr Tahiruddin Hamdan. He elaborated on the “E&E Eco-system Challenges in Malaysia – a Semiconductor Fab perspective”. Next, the Dean of School of Microelectronic Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP ) discuss his view on an important topic on “Industry 4.0 vs University 4.0: Is Malaysia Higher Education Ready?”. The final speaker, Dr Kamarulzaman M Zin, a Director of Callidus Semikonduktor, highlighted the possible direction for the future with his talk titled “The Malaysian E&E Industry; some suggestions for a Way Forward”.

The event has been successful organised with total audience of 70 that come from various background from industry, academic, researchers and students. Apart from the sharing session, 17 postgraduates has participate to share their recent research achievement in the poster session. The participant eagerly follow the program and taking this opportunity to network and meeting new potential collaborators while enjoying the authentic Malaysian food provided by the organizer. 20 lucky draw prizes have been given away to the participant as an appreciation from IEEE CAS Malaysia for their contribution to the society.

At the end of the event, two special award has been given to two selected postgraduate theses. The best MSc thesis award has been awarded  to Lim Lam Ghai from Universiti Technologi Petronas (UTP) with his thesis title “Design of Capacitive Sensing System for Holdup Measurement in Two-Phase Stratified Flow”. Meanwhile, the best PhD thesis award is won by Veeraiyah Thangasamy from Universiti Putra Malaysia with his thesis title “Multimode Multiband PA in 130nm CMOS”.
